Homework / Late Work

  • Due to the nature of mathematics, practice is essential. Math is not a spectator sport and most students cannot learn the necessary skills merely by watching problems as they are solved. Consequently, homework is assigned every day. Fortunately, you are given time during class to work on your homework, and extensive examples of each type of problem will be done in the notes.
  • In an attempt to encourage homework completion – I grade student’s homework with a completion grade vs. the traditional correctness grade. As long as you are attempting each problem, instead of giving up completely, showing your work, and correcting problems as you check your answers – you will receive full credit. In contrast, if you do not complete the assignment, you receive a “missing” mark.
  • In my class, homework is expected on the date it is due for full credit. Putting homework off often causes problems to pile up and in no time, the problems can seem overwhelming. It is important to stay current with the material.

Infinite Campus

There will be three categories within Infinite Campus:

  • Daily Work – this will be an unweighted category. This category will be updated weekly. Here you will be able to see which individual assignments have been turned in and which have not.
  •  Assignments – 20% of the grade. This category will be updated at the end of each chapter. It represents the students total homework score for the chapter. I will total up the points from the daily work             and put that score in to this category.
  • Tests – 80% of grade. This category will be updated at the end of each chapter. I will grade the exam and put the score earned in this category.

When you check Infinite Campus, here is breakdown of what the marks mean:

  • 5 = assignment was turned in completed, work shown, corrected, and on time
  • 4 = assignment was turned in after the chapter test, completed, work shown, and corrected
  • 3 = assignment was turned in late and partially completed.
  • 0 points = not turned in (0’s will only be given in the daily work category which is unweighted)
  • “L” = Late (tagged next to any assignment turned in late)
  • “M” = Missing and, per school board policy, gives a score of 50%
  • “R” = Re-do. This means the student scored less than 50% and will need to re-do it

Test Retakes: After a test has been taken in class, students will have an opportunity to retake the test with the following expectations/understanding:

  • The retake will be completed during the student’s math class period.
  • The student will be responsible for any and all material learned in class while they are choosing to do a test retake.
  • All missing work for the chapter must be turned in, completed and corrected, before the retake date.
  • The retake will be similar to the first test, but not the same test.
  • Only one retake will be offered per chapter.
  • The higher score earned will be recorded in the grade book.

Google Classroom

  • All homework assignments are posted on our class Google Classroom. You can access them at any time from any place. They can be printed, re-printed, or downloaded if needed.

Parents - if you would like to have access to your student’s Google Classroom, please email me. I can send you an invitation and you will then be able to view what your student is working on.
